Time zones are all based on the Co-ordinated universal time (CUT). The Greenwich mean time is the exact time when the sun crosses the Greenwich meridian, and it reaches its highest point there.
Greenwich Mean Time was adopted across the island of great Britain by the railway clearing house 1847, and by almost all railway companies by the following year, from which the term railway drive is derived. Slowly it became adopted for other purposes, but this changed in 1880 when the Greenwich mean time was legally adopted throughout great Britain.
Ireland adopted the Greenwich mean time in 1916 which replaced the Dublin mean time.
Longitude:
Longitude is the distance, measured in an angle which is estimated to start at either the East or the West from the prime meridian at Greenwich, in England to the meridian, passing through a specific position which is measured in degrees, or hours minutes and seconds.
Time zones will vary throughout the year as different countries observe DST during different periods.
The eastern hemisphere is a geographical term for the half of the earth which is located slightly east of the prime meridian which crosses across Greenwich, England. The western hemisphere is otherwise known as the optical hemisphere.
The prime meridian runs through Greenwich at 0 ° longitude.

Calculating worldwide time differences :
The world currently has 31 different time zones.
If the time in London was 12pm, in the following countries the time would be:
Argentina- 9am
Mexico- 6am
Paris- 1pm
Egypt- 2pm
Thailand- 7pm
South Africa- 2pm
Moscow- 3pm
Sydney- 10pm
The Prime Meridian is a line of longitude, 0°, which runs across the equator.

The international date line is an imaginary line above the surface of the earth that runs from the north to the south pole. It passes through the pacific ocean but changes route to pass around some island groups.
